What you can do...

The following list is intended to give you some ideas of things which you can do to help the campaign.

  • Write to your local MP, explaining the difficulties you or your clients face in getting the help that they need. If local suppliers have made a decision to freeze or cut the amount of publicly funded work they do or to withdraw altogether, this should be set out in the letter. You can contact the MP either at his constituency office or by writing to:

[MP’s name],
House of Commons,
London SW1A 0AA

If you do not know who your MP is, you can find out by ringing the Commons Information Office on 020 7219 4272 or by using the constituency locator on the Parliament website here

  • Copy the letter to:

The Department of Constitutional Affairs,
Selborne House,
54 Victoria Street,
London SW1E 8QW

HM Treasury,
Parliament Street,
London SW1

and if you are in London:

Ken Livingstone
Office of the Mayor of London
Romney House
Tufton Street
London SW1 4RA

And to your London Assembly member at the same address.

It should also go to your local councillor, as Councils are an important part of the Community Legal Service.
Finally copies should also be sent to your Legal Services Commission Regional Office.

  • Invite your MP to spend time in your organisation so he can see first hand what you do and the problems your clients face.
  • Get clients to send their MP a letter or email asking him/her to support the Early Day Motion calling for action to protect access to justice.

Whatever you do, please try to publicise it with your local papers and local radio and TV.

And please tell us both what you do and what local publicity you achieve so we can get a clear picture of what is happening across the country. Our contact details are here
